Coleman Savage

I began fly fishing during my youth in Virginia and the Bahamas, and haven't stopped chasing fish or new water since.

Ever since then, I’ve had the chance to:

Spend 150+ days a year on Montana’s waters

Serve as Guide at Large on the board of FOAM

Share the joys of fly fising with anglers of all levels.

The Whole Story

Coleman Savage can say with conviction that he is obsessed with fishing, spending over 200 days on the water most years. Through pioneering of sophisticated fishing techniques, exploring far-off fisheries, and questing for trophy trout, Coleman has become a denizen and student of the rivers in Montana.

Coleman grew up in Scottsville, Virginia and Cherokee Sound in the Bahamas. Between these two beautiful unspoiled places, Coleman was exposed to remarkable fishing under the tutelage of incredible mentors. It was in his early years that he developed a deep passion for fishing, being on the water, and finding serenity in nature.

He got his start in the fishing business as a young man teaching casting and fly tying classes at a local fly shop before he could drive. As soon as Coleman finished high school, he packed up and moved to Montana. After a few summers on the river and winters in the mountains, Coleman enrolled at Montana State University in Bozeman where he would study Business and Water Resource Science to prepare for a future practicing Water Law in the state of Montana. In the meantime, he is enjoying his dream job as a Fishing Outfitter!

Coleman calls the Gallatin Valley home, but travels around Southwest Montana following the best fishing. During his winter off-season, he stays busy on the board of the Fishing Outfitters Association of Montana as Guide at Large – and gets some fishing in himself! If he’s not on the water, Coleman is spending time with friends and family, tying outside-the-box fly patterns, or heading to the hills looking for serenity and deep powder turns.
